Lucie — Life in Lucie’s Shoes
Please read Lucie’s Comment Written On Post 58 (bottom of the post). This is a response to her thoughtful comments.
A story start… Years ago across the great canal we were selling our home. It was surrounded by exquisite gardens nestled between solar heated patios. Octagonal grape arbors, Belgian fences for screening… an open invitation to add, maintain and pamper.
I was worried. Beautiful, yes, but it required care to just maintain. Our agent told us not to worry that someone would come along that was like us. It would call to them. They came bought and we moved to Sequim.
A little more history — I’ve build several niche websites. Android tablets, alternate day diets, … and monetized them. Ads from Google, Amazon offering opportunities to buy must have stuff. But, I wanted to do something more personal.
Shift. Crisp fall day, driving along lower Happy Valley Road I spotted a splotch of colored leaves. Fantasy of colors I mused. Maybe I’ll make a website for musings like this. Things noted… evolved to NotesTaken.

Starting point… an advertisement free site, aimed at what I was/am doing/thinking day-to-day.
Hmm… I want a forum to write about my stuff. A place to polish the craft of setting down ideas… Make it simple. Avoid fancy graphics. Mostly words with minimum illustrations.
How about… I write a hundred posts about anything that catches my fancy. That is about 50,000 practice words to sort out shape and content. It allows discovery time. Are there kindred spirits that like the work. Then sort through the posts. Find big interests and little interests and chart my direction. Hold course or intensify? …. life musings, iPads, gardening centered posts or ….
Meanwhile, I muse, play and have me some fun. I hope a iOS lover will discover something new. A gardener will venture into growing their own plants. A reflector of inner-worlds will find a link. Reactions… laugh, cry, or a head shaking what?
I try this and that.
One way of look at it. There are others.
My thoughts:
Is he reminiscing about how he you got to where he is, trying to connect to folks, or planning to write a memoir?
Patricia, not sure if my response will just confuse the issue. Lucie wrote a comment on a previous post #58. Post # 59 was an attempt to resond to her comment. She raises interesting points. I did not make this connection clear in the post above. Oh well, I’ll keep trying.
Below is the comment that got me rolling. Hope this sets the context for my post above. Lucie shared her views.

Richard,
My simple question to you is: WHY do you write? Are you writing to INFORM? Do you want to ENTERTAIN? Then let your purpose dictate HOW you write. You can read a million different suggestions on HOW to write, but in my (humble opinion), unless you know WHY you’re writing, all the well-meaning suggestions in the world are not going to help you….
You have a handle on “the basics” (again…just my “humble opinion”), but maybe need to focus on what you want your blog/posts to be on. (Mind you, THIS comes from an amateur writer, but may be of help.) Your posts currently jump from gardening to journal-like posts that read like a diary….not quite sure what to expect when I read. I’m wondering: is this blog suppose to be this eclectic in its subject matter or am I not catching on to what you’re doing???
Your opinionated, but ever-so-humble buddy, Lucie ;>)
